Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick was born August 9, 1985. She is a singer and American actress. Anna shot to international fame due to her performance as Natalie Keener in the film Up in the Air (2009), for which she received the Academy Awards, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She portrayed Dinah Lord in the Broadway musical High Society (1998), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Other notable roles include Fritzi Wagner in Camp (2003), Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga (2008-11), Stacey Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Beca Mitchell in Pitch Perfect (2012), and Janet in End of Watch (2012).

Anna was born in the state of Maine, the daughter of Janice and William K. Kendrick. She is of English, Irish, and Scottish descent. Her older brother is actor Michael Cooke Kendrick, who appeared in the 2000 production Looking for an Echo. She attended Deering High School in her hometown.

Kendrick started her performing career at the age of 10 when she caught a bus from Portland, Maine, to New York City where she could attend auditions. Her first role was as Dinah in the Broadway musical High Society in the summer of 1998 when she was only 12 years old, a performance for which she was awarded the Theatre World Award. She was also nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award. The Tony Award nomination made her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee ever. Kendrick went on to perform in a number of other stage productions, including the musical A Little Night Music, in which she played Fredrika Armfeldt in the New York City Opera production. A little later, she made her motion picture debut in the 2003 musical comedy Camp. For her portrayal of Fritzi Wagner in this film, she was nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards Best Debut Performance.

In 2007, she appeared in her next film, Rocket Science, in which she played Ginny Ryerson, a high school debater that talked fast. Although Kendrick said she found the role intimidating and challenging after watching an actual national collegiate championship debate, her performance was given high accolades by critics and she was nominated for an Independent Spirit award for Best Supporting Actress. Later that year, she auditioned for the role of Jessica Stanley in the film adaptation of Twilight, a 2008 film based on the initial book of the novel series by Stephenie Meyer. She had intended to do a mix-and-match audition with various actors, but she was too sick and had to leave prematurely. Fortunately for her, she was brought in for a later session and won the role of Jessica. Kendrick reprised this role in the first three Twilight sequels.

Anna's theater singing experience won her the opportunity to land a role in The Marc Pease Experience (2009), where she appears as a high school senior involved in musical theater. She also appeared in the 2009 film Elsewhere, in which she portrays her first lead character, a girl whose best friend goes missing. She also appeared in the movie Up in the Air, based on Walter Kirn's 2001 book of the same name. For her role in Up in the Air, the National Board of Review named her Best Supporting Actress, and she also garnered nominations from numerous other awards including The Golden Globes, The Screen Actors Guild, and the Academy Awards.

She reprised her role as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She was featured in Edgar Wright's rendition of the graphic novel Scott Pilgrim, titled Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. In this film, she played Stacey Pilgrim, the sister of the lead character. In 2010, she appeared in LCD Soundsystem's music video "Pow Pow" as a "shape-shifter" who collects "the souls of wicked men". In October 2010, she was at the 2010 Top Glamour Awards in Mexico where she won the award for "Best International Actress".

In 2011, Anna starred in the dramatic comedy 50/50, and reprised her role as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. In 2012, she was Rosie in the film version of the baby guide What to Expect When You're Expecting. She also voiced the character Courtney in the stop-motion animated movie ParaNorman. She starred in Pitch Perfect as Beca, a rebellious student who learns that she has a voice in her school's all-women a cappella group, and she is also featured on the film's soundtrack. Kendrick was also in the police drama End of Watch, portraying Janet. In 2012 she was in the political thriller The Company You Keep.

In 2013, she scored a popular song with "Cups (When I'm Gone)" from the film Pitch Perfect which became a No. 2 hit on Billboard's Adult Pop Song chart. Kendrick also hosted SNL on April 5, 2014 with musical guest Pharrell.
