Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick was born August 9, 1985. She is a singer and American actress. She rose to fame due to her portrayal as Natalie Keener in Up in the Air (2009), for which she received the Academy Awards, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She portrayed Dinah Lord in the Broadway production High Society (1998), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Other notable roles include Fritzi Wagner in Camp (2003), Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga (2008-11), Stacey Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Beca Mitchell in Pitch Perfect (2012), and Janet in End of Watch (2012).

She was born in Portland, Maine, the daughter of William K and Janice Kendrick. Her descent is Scottish, English, and Irish. Her older brother is actor Michael Cooke Kendrick, who appeared in the 2000 production Looking for an Echo. She attended Deering High School in Portland.

Anna started her career at the age of 10 when she took a bus from her hometown to New York City where she could attend auditions. Her first acting role was as Dinah in the Broadway musical High Society in the summer of 1998 when she was 12 years old, a performance for which she was awarded the Theatre World Award. She was also nominated for a Drama Desk Award and Tony Award. The Tony Award nomination made her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee ever. Kendrick went on to appear in a number of other productions, including A Little Night Music, in which she played Fredrika Armfeldt in the New York City Opera production. A little later, she made her motion picture debut in the 2003 comedy musical Camp. For her portrayal of Fritzi Wagner in this film, she was nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards Best Debut Performance.

In 2007, she appeared in her next film, Rocket Science, in which she portrayed Ginny Ryerson, a fast-talking high school debater. Although Kendrick said she found the part challenging and intimidating after watching a real national collegiate debate, her performance was given high accolades by critics and she was nominated for an Independent Spirit award for Best Supporting Actress. Later that year, she auditioned for the part of Jessica Stanley in Twilight, a 2008 film based on the initial book of the series by Stephenie Meyer. Anna had intended to do auditions with various actors, but she was too sick and had to leave prematurely. Fortunately for her, she was brought in for a later session where she was given the role of Jessica. Kendrick reprised this role in the first three Twilight sequels.

Kendrick's singing experience in theater gave her the chance to land a role in The Marc Pease Experience (2009), where she appears as a high school senior involved in musical theater. She also appeared in the 2009 film Elsewhere, in which she plays her first lead character, a girl whose best friend disappears. She also appeared in the movie Up in the Air, based on Walter Kirn's 2001 book of the same name. For her role in Up in the Air, she won Best Suporting Actress with the National Board of Review, and she also garnered nominations from numerous other awards including The Screen Actors Guild, The Golden Globes, and the Academy Awards.

Kendrick reprised her performance as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She was featured in Edgar Wright's rendition of the graphic novel Scott Pilgrim, the name of the movie being Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Kendrick played Stacey Pilgrim, the sister of the lead character. In 2010, she was in LCD Soundsystem's music video "Pow Pow" as a "shape-shifter" who gathers "the souls of wicked men". In October 2010, she was at the 2010 Top Glamour Awards in Mexico where she won the award for "Best International Actress".

In 2011, Anna was featured in the dramatic comedy 50/50, and reprised her her portrayal of Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. In 2012, she was Rosie in the film version of the baby book What to Expect When You're Expecting. She also lent her voice to the character Courtney in the animated movie ParaNorman. She starred in Pitch Perfect as Beca, a rebellious student who learns that she has a voice in her school's all-women a cappella group, and she is also featured on the film's soundtrack. Kendrick also appeared in the police drama End of Watch, portraying Janet. In 2012 she was in the thriller The Company You Keep.

In 2013, Anna scored a hit song with "Cups (When I'm Gone)" from the movie Pitch Perfect which became a No. 2 hit on Billboard's Adult Pop Song chart. Anna also hosted SNL on April 5, 2014 with musical guest Pharrell.
