Anna Kendrick



Anna Kendrick was delivered to this planet on August 9, 1985. She is a singer and American actress. Anna shot to fame after her performance as Natalie Keener in the movie Up in the Air (2009), for which she was nominated for the Academy Awards, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She portrayed Dinah Lord in the Broadway production High Society (1998), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Other notable roles include Fritzi Wagner in Camp (2003), Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga (2008-11), Stacey Pilgrim in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), Beca Mitchell in Pitch Perfect (2012), and Janet in End of Watch (2012).

Kendrick was born in the state of Maine, the daughter of William K and Janice Kendrick. Her descent is Scottish, English, and Irish. Her older brother is actor Michael Cooke Kendrick. He appeared in the 2000 film Looking for an Echo. Anna attended Deering High School in Portland, Maine.

Anna began her career at the age of 10 when she caught a bus from Portland, Maine, to New York City so that she could attend auditions. Kendrick's initial role was as Dinah in the Broadway production High Society in August 1998 when she was only 12 years old, a role for which she won the Theatre World Award. Also, she was nominated for a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award. The Tony Award nomination made her the third-youngest Tony Award nominee ever. Anna went on to appear in a number of other stage productions, including the musical A Little Night Music, playing Fredrika Armfeldt in the New York City Opera production. Afterwards, she made her film debut in the 2003 musical comedy Camp. For her portrayal of Fritzi Wagner in this film, she received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards Best Debut Performance.

In 2007, Anna had a role in the film Rocket Science, in which she portrayed Ginny Ryerson, a high school debater that talked fast. Although she said she found the role challenging and intimidating after watching an actual national collegiate debate, her performance was given high accolades by critics and she was nominated for an Independent Spirit award for Best Supporting Actress. Later that year, Anna tried out for the part of Jessica Stanley in the film adaptation of Twilight, a 2008 film based on the first book of the novel series by Stephenie Meyer. Anna had intended to do a mix-and-match audition with various actors, but was too ill and had to leave. Fortunately for her, she was able to come back for a later session where she won the role of Jessica. Kendrick reprised this role in the first three Twilight sequels.

Kendrick's theater singing experience gave her the opportunity to land a role in The Marc Pease Experience (2009), where she appears as a high school senior involved in musical theater. She also appeared in the 2009 film Elsewhere, in which she portrays her first lead character, a girl whose best friend goes missing. She also starred in the film Up in the Air, based on Walter Kirn's 2001 book of the same name. For her performance in Up in the Air, the National Board of Review named her Best Supporting Actress, and she also picked up nominations from numerous other awards including The Golden Globes, The Screen Actors Guild, and the Academy Awards.

She reprised her performance as Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She was featured in Edgar Wright's adaptation of the graphic novel Scott Pilgrim, titled Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. In this film, she played Stacey Pilgrim, the sister of the lead character. In 2010, she appeared in LCD Soundsystem's music video "Pow Pow" as a "shape-shifter" who gathers "the souls of wicked men". In October 2010, she was at the 2010 Top Glamour Awards based in Mexico where she was given the award for "Best International Actress".

In 2011, Anna was featured in the dramatic comedy 50/50, and reprised her her portrayal of Jessica Stanley in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. In 2012, she played Rosie in the film version of the baby book What to Expect When You're Expecting. She also voiced the character Courtney in the animated film ParaNorman. She starred in Pitch Perfect as Beca, a rebellious student who discovers her voice in her school's female a cappella group, and she is also featured on the film's soundtrack. Kendrick was also in the police drama End of Watch, portraying Janet. In 2012 she was in the political thriller The Company You Keep.

In 2013, she scored a hit song with "Cups (When I'm Gone)" from the movie Pitch Perfect which became a No. 2 hit on Billboard's Adult Pop chart. Anna also made her SNL hosting debut on April 5, 2014 with musical guest Pharrell.
